KEY STAGES 3 AND 4 - SECONDARY + IGCSE - 11 TO 16 YEARS OLD
British Secondary Education
Critical thinking and academic independence.
An international British curriculum to develop critical thinking and academic autonomy
ISCB offers a high-quality British education with 100% English instruction, being the only one in the province of Girona.
At International School Costa Brava (ISCB), the Secondary stage follows the prestigious British curriculum, providing a quality education that encourages critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving.
Unlike the Spanish system, British secondary education begins in Year 7 (age 11), which is equivalent to 6th grade of primary education in the Spanish system. This allows students to begin their secondary education earlier, adapting to more advanced and personalised learning methodologies.

A Two-Phase Secondary School
Our secondary school stage is divided into two distinct phases, ensuring structured and effective academic progression:
Phase 1
Key Stage 3 (Year 7 – Year 9 | 11–14 years)
During this stage, students study a wide range of subjects, including English, Maths, Science, Geography, History, Art, Music, Computer Science, Spanish, Catalan, French and Physical Education.
- Focus on critical thinking and problem-solving.
- Innovative learning methods with practical and interdisciplinary projects
- Classes taught in English, with support in Spanish and Catalan
- More elective subjects than in ESO, allowing students to explore their interests from an early age
Phase 2: IGCSE Preparation
Key Stage 4 (Year 10 – Year 11 | 14–16 years)
During this stage, students follow the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme, a globally recognised qualification.
- Core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Spanish and Catalan, History and Geography of Spain, Physical Education, and Personal, Social and Health Education
